Leading Others

Is it important to you and your organization that you attract and retain the best talent possible? If not, it should be. People increasingly have a choice about why and where they work – even in a tight economy good people are highly valued.

The command and control leadership style no longer works with today’s generation. A new leadership style is needed. Coaching is defined as a way to “convey a valued person from where he or she is to where they want to be”. This experiential one-day session will provide a framework for you to examine current best practices around leading, coaching and engaging others.

The session has been designed for those who are responsible for leading and coaching others in attaining maximum performance and consistent results, whether formally or informally.

Session topics include:

  • Identify the core competencies of a coach-approach to leading others.

  • Understand your natural strengths and growth areas as a coach.

  • Understand the different types of coaching required for optimum performance.

  • Practice coaching in a safe environment.

  • Learn straight talk and how to speak accountably as a coach.

Leading Organizations

Do you envision a culture where people thrive and bottom lines are met? Are your well developed change efforts falling on deaf ears? Despite your best strategy, do you find that change is slow and progress seems stifled? IBM’s Lou V. Gerstner said it best: “Culture isn’t just one aspect of the game. "It is the game.”

The session has been designed for those responsible for defining the culture of their organization and those who need to understand the cultures of teams, departments and projects in which they lead or influence.

Session topics include:

  • Complete a cultural diagnosis of your organization, team or business unit.

  • Understand linkages between customer satisfaction, employee retention and change readiness and culture.

  • Learn ways to encourage change in your team, project or organization through courageous strategies and conversations.

  • Engage buy-in and support from key stakeholders by supporting the human dimensions of change.

  • Explore Canadian best practice research.

Leading Through Conflict

Many people avoid conflict. Sometimes this is a healthy choice but other times avoidance only prolongs the issues or concerns that have gone underground. Learn your natural conflict resolution style and how to celebrate your positive approaches, and learn how to mitigate those methods that are not working for you.

The session has been designed for those wanting to get better at dealing with conflict whether at an individual, team or organizational level.

Session topics include:

  • Complete a conflict inventory which examines your underlying values, motivators and beliefs about conflict.

  • Understand the underlying sources of conflict.

  • Connect emotional intelligence learning to “trigger” situations.

  • Learn ways to face conflict by working through situations that cause you concern.

  • Practice applying various conflict tools and methods to support real life situations.

Date: April 30, 2012
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
