Dr. Amit Monga

Dr. Amit Monga, is an active angel investor who has previously worked as an investment banker, venture capitalist and has successfully founded and sold a US based on-demand software company.  He currently holds an Executive Professor of Finance appointment at the School of Business, University of Alberta, and is also the Chairman & Managing Director of Sarapoint Global Ltd., an international advisory firm that assists private and public companies with capital markets positioning and executing growth strategies.  Most recently, he founded Baanto, a Toronto based 3D tracking technology company with applications in gaming, touch-screens and interactive white boards. 


Dr. Monga has extensive corporate governance experience and has previously served on the boards of venture funds and private companies.  He currenlty serves on the board of Alberta Innovates: Technology Futures, an agency funded by Alberta Government to promote innovation in the area of technology, and is a member of the Business Advisory Council at the University of Alberta School of Business.  An active supporter of arts and education, he is a supporter of Bell Lightbox and also member of its Campaign Commitee. He has also endowed scholarships to support excellence in capital markets and venture capital at the University of Alberta.  Dr. Monga is a frequent contributor to the Financial Post, where he writes on venture capital, private equity and M&A. 


Dr. Monga received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with a major in Engineering Management from the University of Alberta, where his research focused on solving complex reliability based design problems using genetic algorithms.  His research has been published in top peer reviewed academic journals.
