SEMDP Modules
When planning your learning, consider what would benefit you the most. For example, do you want to focus on a particular area or topic to meet a specific need? Or, do you want to take a cross-section of courses to provide a broad perspective?
Who can participate?
This program is open to senior managers, executive managers, and senior officials in the Alberta public service, along with senior employees of the Alberta Government Agencies, Boards, and Commissions.
Other managers and professionals interested in learning opportunities should contact their department’s training manager for information on the Management Development Program. Information on the program is also available at http://www.chr.alberta.ca/semdp.
How the Program Works
The program consists of 18 modules, ranging from 2 days to 5 days in length. It is based on the premise that leaders must understand the forces that drive change and be able to respond appropriately to these forces.
No modules are mandatory. You are welcome to complete as few or as many modules as you wish. Participants who complete at least 19 days of training in any combination of the modules will receive a certificate of recognition at an annual ceremony. To provide greater customer service and increased access to employee development opportunities, certain program modules will be offered at the Executive Education office in Calgary. If demand is great enough, additional modules will be considered for delivery in Calgary.
How are the Modules Presented?
Classes in this program run from 9:00am until 4:00pm daily.
The modules are presented using a combination of lectures, group discussions, case studies, and guest speakers who bring their practical perspectives to the topic.
The content of the modules and the case studies are continuously reviewed to ensure they are current and relevant to the Alberta public service. Alberta public service initiatives, including the renewed vision and values, competency framework, Business Excellence and Service Excellence, are incorporated into the appropriate modules to ensure program comprehensiveness and consistency.
