2012 - 2013 Corporate Executive Development Competency Sessions
The Corporate Executive Development (CED) is a comprehensive strategic approach to leadership development and leadership continuity recognizing that senior leaders are a corporate resource. This brochure outlines the CED Competency Sessions which are based on the key competency areas outlined in the position profiles for Deputy Ministers and Assistant Deputy Ministers. The sessions are designed to facilitate leadership development and ensure leadership continuity in the Alberta public service.

Who Should Attend?
CED Competency Sessions are open to all executive managers in the Alberta public service and employees at equivalent levels within the Alberta Government Agencies, Boards and Commissions.
How do the sessions work?
Offered in partnership by the Government of Alberta and the University of Alberta’s Executive Education, CED Competency Sessions merge practical knowledge with a theoretical foundation providing participants with comprehensive training focused on each of the Deputy Minister and Assistant Deputy Minister key competencies:
Building Strategic Relationships
Developing and maintaining win/win relationships and partnerships.
Leadership
Positively influencing people and events in a leadership role.
Resource Management
Effectively managing internal and external resources to achieve organizational goals.
Results Orientation
Knowing what results are important, focusing resources to achieve them in alignment with the goals of the organization.
Strategic Thinking
Taking a broad scale, long-term view, assessing options and implications.
Format
Delivery of each session is interactive and includes a combination of
lectures, group discussions, small group work and case studies.
- Classes in this program run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily.
- High calibre instructors from across North America come to share their
knowledge and expertise in the competency areas.
- Session content is current, relevant and practical, building on the knowledge and experience of participants.
- Sessions are geared to enhance understanding of the applicability of concepts learned within the context of the Government of Alberta.
- Content will be explored from a global perspective while examining issues specific to Alberta, focusing on the challenges facing the Alberta public service.
