High quality research scholars make substantial contributions over their careers to academic knowledge and students’ understanding of business. They learn the fundamentals of high quality research and teaching necessary to make such contributions in their doctoral program at the Alberta School of Business by working closely with world-renowned faculty. Our mission to educate high quality research scholars fits well with the mission of the Alberta School of Business: To Excel and Lead through Research, Teaching, and External Engagement.
Our program is vibrant and growing, with an entering class of about 15 a year. Graduates of the Doctor of Philosophy in Business program have obtained positions in prestigious universities throughout the world, including senior positions at Universities such as UC (Berkeley), Imperial College (London), the Wharton School at Pennsylvania, Emory, Iowa, Hong Kong Inst of Science and Technology, McGill and Western Ontario. There is a tremendous and persistent shortage of Business faculty around the world and demand for our graduates is very strong. Many of our students obtain multiple offers for tenure track positions, with salaries well into the six figure range.

The Doctor of Philosophy in Business program at the University of Alberta offers majors in Accounting, Finance, Operations and Information Systems, Marketing, and Strategic Management and Organization – including macro and micro organizational behavior.
The program also allows students to get involved with research beyond their own project and concentration. For example, the Business Research Conference is held annually to give students an opportunity to expose their ideas and research results to faculty and colleagues.
