MBA Case Competitions
Case competitions provide MBA students with a chance to apply their knowledge and skills in front of business leaders against students from top MBA programs. The University of Alberta is pleased to participate in a number of leading competitions that give students a chance to expand their professional network across Canada and globally.
The Alberta School of Business hosts two internal case competition each year to present students with the opportunity to hone their case development and presentation skills.
Some of the competitions the Alberta MBA program participates in include: Financial Executives International “Best in Class” Case Competition
Organized by Financial Executives International (the professional membership association for senior financial executives) this invitation only competition brings together teams from the top business schools across Canada. Students are presented with a live case and have 24 hours to prepare a plan of action to be delivered to business executives judging their recommendations.

Congratulations to the 2010 Alberta MBA FEI team (Walter Jull, Greg Nakatsui, Raja Mita, Lucas Matheson) who won the 5th Annual FEI "Best in Class" Case Competition. The case involved a fictional real-time crisis at HudBay Minerals. In addition to a $10,000 prize, the team also received invitations to the FEI Canada Annual conference in June 2011.
MBA Games
The MBA Games bring together students from most MBA programs in Canada to compete in academic, athletic, and spirit events every January. Hosted by business schools across the country, this competition assembles the leaders of tomorrow to defend the honour and reputation of their universities with the goal of obtaining the prestigious Queen's Cup.
TATA Case Competition
The TATA Cup is sponsored by TATA consultancy services. The competition is a one-day event hosted at a Canadian university (this year it will be held at the University of Ottawa). The competition focus is on sustainable business practices and CSR strategies to maintain profitability. The competition is by invitation only and pits MBA students from Canadian business schools against each other. John Molson MBA International Case Competition
Held at Concordia University in Montreal, the event brings together 30+ schools from around the world to a week-long case competition. Combining daily case sessions with a myriad of networking and social events over the week, this event provides a great chance to get to know business leaders and students from around the world. The George Washington University International MBA Case Competition
Held at George Washington University in Washington, DC the GWU International MBA Case Competition brings together MBA student teams from local, national, and international business schools to analyze a current situation facing a nonprofit organization and to present solutions that draw on the assets of the organization.
National Investment Banking Competition
This event is organized by the Sauder School of Business Finance Club. Students will be given an opportunity to showcase their talent in a format that emulates the responsibility of an analyst/associate. The event will allow students to show what they have to offer to industry leaders in investment banking. Parallel to the competition is an opportunity for students to participate in a conference, packed with interactive workshops, live trading simulation, key note speakers and a panel discussion
