The Alberta MBA Full-Time Program

Why an Alberta MBA?

A Masters Degree in Business Administration represents a significant achievement and valuable credential for anyone seeking to advance their career with a focus on business issues. The Alberta MBA program allows you the flexibility to pursue knowledge in a wide range of topics – from Finance to Marketing, International Business to Natural Resource Management within a specialization, a joint degree program or as a general program.

The Program

The Alberta MBA is a challenging and rigorous program that demands a significant investment of time and energy but pays dividends many times over in knowledge, understanding, skills, and strong friendships that last the length of the program and beyond.

With only a small number of students accepted each year, the Alberta MBA provides for a personalized and high-quality experience which is further enhanced by the program’s faculty, many of them winner’s of teaching and other excellence awards.

Team work in all of the core courses is an essential element of the program and great care is taken at the beginning of the program in arriving at groups that are both diverse and complementary. During orientation, the teams are formed and members are given the chance to get to know each other without the demands of the program that will soon be upon them.

Program Length

The MBA program is a two year program comprising 57 credits (or 19 3-credit courses). The first year of the two-year Alberta MBA consists mostly of a pre-set schedule of business and economics basics designed to establish a solid business foundation. Areas covered include: accounting, business strategy, economics, finance, management science, marketing, and organizational behaviour.

The second year offers a wide variety of courses one can pursue, giving you an opportunity to fine-tune your degree with respect to your interests and job opportunities you wish to explore. A capstone business strategy course that brings together previously learned knowledge and seeks to apply it to comprehensive cases and issues, is the only common requirement for each student in the second year of the program. Some electives may be offered in the evening, allowing you to interact with part-time MBA students.

While most students take 20 months, the Alberta MBA can be completed in as little as 16 months. The 16 month program offers less flexibility to allow students to return the work force that much faster.

Career Management

The Alberta MBA equips students with the knowledge needed to function well in a corporate or entrepreneurial environment. With required course in Career Management Skills, one-on-one coaching and career planning with MBA Career Services, and the opportunity to pursue summer internships, students are well placed for success with the Alberta MBA. Our placement rate is traditionally one of the highest in Canada.
