International Students

Visa

To study in Canada, you must obtain a Study Permit from the nearest Canadian Embassy, High Commission, or Consulate.  It is recommended that you check with your local Canadian Embassy well before you would want to arrive in Canada as it can sometimes take up to 6 months to complete the visa process.  To determine where you need to apply, consult the Citizenship & Immigration Canada website.

Before the Canadian Immigration Office will issue a Study Permit, you will need to satisfy the conditions below:

  1. Proof of Acceptance: you will need to supply your official letter of admission to the UofA MBA Program
  2. Proof of Identity: you will need to supply your passport or related travel document
  3. Proof of Financial Support: Citizenship & Immigration Canada required evidence that you will be able to support yourself while you are here completing your studies.  At a minimum, you will to provide evidence that you have enough funding to cover your tuition plus $10,000 in living expenses before you will be issued a study permit.

In some countries, you may also be required to have a medical examination.

Where required, you may also need to obtain a Temporary Resident Visa.  Spouses and children who come to Canada will also require a Temporary Resident Visa.  In addition, you will need to provide evidence that you can also support your spouse and any children ($4,000/year for the first accompanying family member and $3,000/year for each additional family member).  A multiple-entry visa allows you to re-enter Canada at a later date, without having to apply for a new visa.

For more information, you will need to contact your nearest Canadian Embassy or Consulate, or visit the website of Citizenship and Immigration Canada for more information.

Tuition for International Students

An Alberta MBA is an investment that will pay future dividends. Fees are assessed each term and are based on the number of courses in which a student is registered.  Current fee information is available on the Tuition and Costs section of this website.  While Citizenship & Immigration Canada requires students to have at least $10,000 available for living expenses over 12 months, we would suggest that students who would like single accommodation budget closer to $14,000 for living expenses.

Bursaries and scholarships are available for all students and dedicated funding is set aside specifically for international students.  Please contact the MBA Program Office if you have any questions concerning current and future tuition.
