Emotional Intelligence – The Leaders’ Edge
We take for granted the importance of IQ in our working day, it’s a given, it’s a door opener to leadership and career success. However, EQ or EI is increasingly the differentiator in those leaders who excel. Emotional Intelligence is defined as: “a set of emotional and social skills that influence the way we perceive and express ourselves, develop and maintain social relationships, cope with challenges, and use emotional information in an effective and meaningful way.” Why is EI important? It has been proven to be a key success factor for leaders who develop their awareness, skills and competencies in this area. And yes, EQ is learnable and can be developed. Perhaps more importantly, current research supports that leaders can derail their careers if they don’t develop skills in EQ critical areas such as: relationship building and self-management during stressful or changing times.

LEADING OTHERS
It is important to your organization that you attract and retain the best talent possible. People have a choice about where and why they work – even in a tight economy, good people are highly valued. The “command and control” leadership style no longer works with today’s generations, and as a result a new coaching leadership style is required. Coaching is defined as a way to “convey a valued person from where he or she is, to where they want to be”. This experiential session will provide a framework for you to examine current best practices around leading, coaching and engaging others, and will provide key insights about how to coach and develop others for success. A stimulating combination of theory, experiential exercises, self-discovery and skills practice will ensure that you take away the practical skills, knowledge, and confidence to apply this new learning immediately.

LEADING ORGANIZATIONS
Do you envision a culture where people thrive and bottom lines are met? But in reality your well-developed change efforts seem to fall on deaf ears? Despite your best strategies, do you find that change is slow and progress seems stifled? IBM’s Lou V. Gerstner said it best: “Culture isn’t just one aspect of the game. It is the game.” In this session, you will be introduced to best practice culture research that illuminates a new path and identifies a missing link in leadership development. You will be provided with the theory, assessment tools and skills, and practice opportunities to help your team, project or organization define a constructive and results-based culture.

LEADING THROUGH CONFLICT
While it is an inevitable aspect of leadership, many people avoid conflict. Sometimes this is a healthy choice, but at other times avoidance only prolongs the issue or concern, or it forces issues underground. Learn your natural conflict resolution style and how to celebrate your positive approaches. Learn how to modify and mitigate those methods that are not working for you. You will complete a personal inventory to help you understand your natural conflict style and your underlying values when in conflict situations. You will experience firsthand a number of practical tools and approaches for dealing effectively with conflict, as you work through real issues.
