Strategic Management

Course Description

Strategic management is fundamentally concerned with improving organizational performance. This one-day session aims to provide you with an understanding of the discipline’s essential elements. We will work with you to help improve your managerial effectiveness by enabling you to select and apply appropriate perspectives and leadership patterns when you are faced with identifying opportunities and solving problems within your organization.

Course Content

This course will include topics such as:

  • Defining strategy and determining its purpose;
  • Examining the core concepts of strategic management; and,
  • Considering three dominant paradigms in strategic management:
  • Macro environments and industry dynamics,
  • Core competence and resource-based views of the firm, and
  • Relational/networking views of strategic advantage.

Learning Methodology

This session follows the lecture and discussion format. Core concepts will be presented and followed by a discussion of the implications for your own work environment. You will be encouraged to integrate and apply concepts throughout the session.
