Michael B. Percy
Dr. Michael Percy received his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Victoria and his Master of Arts (Economics) and Doctoral degree (Economics) from Queen's University.
Dr. Percy was appointed Dean of the University of Alberta School of Business in July 1997. He is the author and co author of four books and numerous articles on public policy, international trade and economic development. Dr. Percy has served on the editorial boards of the Canadian Journal of Economics and also Forest Science and has been an active commentator on current public policy issues. He is also active as a guest speaker and has taught in a number of professional development programs.
Dr. Percy serves on numerous boards including EPCOR, STARS, K-Bro Income Trust, and Timber Investments Ltd. In addition, Dr. Percy served as Chair of the Advisory Council for the Provincial Minister of Energy and was also a member of the Federal Expert Panel to Review Equalization and Territorial Funding Formula. He is also on the Board of ATB and the Alberta Economic Development Authority. He is Deputy Chair of the Capital Region United Way Campaign and will Chair the Campaign in 2011.
Dr. Percy took academic leave in 1993 and served one term as a member of the Legislative Assembly, Province of Alberta, and as Liberal Party Finance Critic until March 1997. He served as co chair of the Premier's 1997 Economic Growth Summit. He is also a past President of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Percy has participated in several health care funding review panels for the province and acted as a consultant to various provincial governments and United Nations agencies on issues related to trade and economic development.
