University of Alberta

Message from the Associate Dean

The past year was one of incredible achievement for the Alberta School of Business. Operating in an uncertain world economy, our Preservation of the Name campaign was a great success, resulting in over $20 million committed to the School and the Alberta name in perpetuity. The Alberta School of Business was recognized by the Financial Times as having one of the top 40 Executive MBA programs in the world, and the Alberta MBA program ranked in the top 100 overall globally, and first in Canada for career progress. The high calibre of research and teaching from our faculty and the achievements of our alumni are recognized on campus and around the world.

Executive Education is proud to have contributed to this environment of success.
We have planned a year of outstanding programming for you which reflects our mission: to lead business education and provide opportunities to develop and discover skills, empower lives, enhance organizations, and enrich the business community.

We have launched a brilliant new program designed to help you maximize your access to capital markets, taking you out of the traditional classroom and into the heart of business at the TSX and Silicon Valley.

We have partnered with the School of Retailing to develop and deliver the Retail Essentials Program, an offering unique in Canada. In the year ahead, we will continue to offer you outstanding professional opportunities, including new industry-specific programs which reflect the quality of our work with other University of Alberta faculties. These include collaborations with the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, the School of Public Health, and the Faculty of Law, all of which have resulted in learning opportunities that speak directly to the unique needs of professionals in these respective disciplines.

In the next year we will introduce a unique, world-class program in corporate social responsibility. Recognizing the demand for a program of this kind, Executive Education will bring together instructors and information which will inspire you to develop new perspectives regarding sustainability and success in business. We are committed to furthering our own practices in corporate social responsibility, and have been encouraged by our grassroots staff initiative which saw us involved in different segments of the community, offering our individual time and expertise in a concentrated effort to make a positive social impact.

Working together, we will influence the growth and innovation of our new economy while reinforcing the principle that lifelong learning is fundamental to our personal and collective success.

Sincerely,

Carolyn Campbell
