The prestigious Financial Times of London ranked the University of Alberta/University of Calgary Executive MBA (EMBA) program number 36 in its international ranking of 95 EMBA programs released today. The joint Alberta/Haskayne Executive MBA program has been ranked in the top 40 since 2007 and is offered in both Edmonton and Calgary.

The program outranked all Canadian schools in the "aims achieved" category which measures the extent to which alumni fulfilled their goals or reasons for enrolling in an EMBA program. Graduates of the Alberta/Haskayne EMBA also reported the highest percentage salary increase out of all the Canadian programs.

Consistency is everything in international rankings, according to the Dean of the Haskayne School of Business. "The fact that we’ve ranked in the top 40 EMBA programs world-wide, over the last three years, is a huge accomplishment," says Leonard Waverman. "We continue to attract top business people who use what they learn in the program to advance their organizations and their careers."

University of Alberta Dean Mike Percy echoes the consistency factor, as well as the "program’s continuing ability to offer a unique partnership, and access to western Canada’s entrepreneurial business leaders, the growth engine of the economy."

David Ackert, a graduate of the Class of 2006 which was the class surveyed by the Financial Times, credits the program with assisting him in his current role as Group Vice-President – Europe/Russia/Caspian/Sub-Sahara for a major international energy services company. "The program focus on strategy, leadership and financial accounting/management was solid and helped me take on a key role in the Eastern Hemisphere for my company."

The Alberta/Haskayne EMBA is an intensive 20-month program offered to 100 students each year. Features of the program that make it different from many others include:

  • an executive speakers series providing students with direct access to Canada’s prominent business leaders
  • an international study trip that gives students exposure to Canadian companies operating globally
  • an executive coach available to all EMBA students
