Dr. Bill Preshing, author of A Chronicle of Commerce
Edmonton – Alumni will get a sneak peek at a new book during this weekend's U of A Centenary Celebration. A Chronicle of Commerce: A History of the School of Business at the University of Alberta, reveals everything you ever wanted to know about the School of Business but were afraid to ask.
Author Dr. Bill Preshing spent the last six years searching every nook and cranny of this building, and the memories of current and retired staff, for the interesting details and stories of the people who made the School of Business what it is today.
On Saturday morning, September 20, from 10 a.m. to noon, during the School’s open house and brunch on the fifth floor of the Business Building (Stollery Executive Development Centre), Bill will be signing first editions, hot off the press for your private collection or to display in your office.
The regular price of the book will be $39.95, however, the special price for our launch events will be $25 including GST.
A Chronicle of Commerce
is more about the people – students, alumni, faculty, and staff - than anything else and we hope that you will read and enjoy the wonderful story Bill has woven of our collective pasts from the last 92 years.
Other events are scheduled for the School of Business to celebrate the Centenary of the University which is running September 18-21.
Numerous graduating classes are holding their own private dinners this weekend, including the MBA classes of ’73, ’83 and ’88, the BCom class of ’68 and Dean Mike Percy is again hosting the 50 year class of ’58 to a private dinner.
High school students can mull over the various Bachelor of Commerce programs which will be showcased in the Tory Lecture Theatre, Room TL 11 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on September 20.
As well, a lecture titled “Business – Major in Management Information Systems: Your Fastest Way to the Top!” is slated for 10 a.m. in Room 1-9 of the Business Building.
Also on Saturday, the Business Students’ Club Fair will occur from noon to 2 p.m. in the Francis and Harriet Winspear Business Student Centre on the second floor of the Business Building.
In addition to the Open House and Brunch, many alumni will attend the Gala Homecoming Dinner Saturday night at the Shaw Conference Centre. The marquee event of Homecoming 2008 will feature our dynamic President, Indira Samarasekera, a concert by the legendary Ian Tyson, and then a dance featuring the Dave Babcock Jump Orchestra.
