Competitiveness
The Western Centre for Economic Research is engaged in projects focusing on the competitive position of industry. These projects have been mainly focused in two areas, forestry and small business.
Forestry
An ongoing project has seen the WCER act as the Secretariat for Alberta Sustainable Resource Development's (ASRD) forest competitiveness strategy. The goal is to enhance ASRD's ability to advocate for the industry and assess new opportunities that align with the Government of Alberta's mandate and business plan objectives.
Small Business
The WCER has produced several reports regarding small business activity in Western Canada. A recent project, Reaching Out, produced a thorough report concerning the challenges faced by small businesses and made policy recommendations as to how these challenges could be met.
