MARK 465 Internship Testimonials
Testimonials
The Marketing 465 Internship program was a huge success. Through this course I had the opportunity to apply textbook learning to a corporate environment with the bonus of earning course credit. I was placed with Ricki’s Home Office in Winnipeg, Manitoba which allowed me to achieve independence and to gain work experience in my field of study. Ricki’s provided me with a positive and supportive environment where I researched the impact of social media on a clothing retailer. With the social media project I was given a wide range of creative freedom in order to realize Ricki’s objectives, fulfill the course requirements, and increase my personal knowledge on a relevant form of communication. A project of this magnitude would not necessarily be available in an entry level marketing position, and I have no doubt that the hands on experience I gained will prove to be extremely valuable next year as I enter the work force. I strongly recommend this internship program to all business students regardless of their major.

I would definitely recommend this course to friends and fellow students. This course is a great investment in your future. It has a perfect combination of academic and work experience. It allows you to go out and experience the business world first hand, learn new skills and network with some great people. I would recommend it to any business student regardless of their major.

As a HR major, I was able to attain a position at Canada Safeway that not only helped me further my knowledge of the HR realm, but also show me what exciting careers the retail industry has to offer. The retail industry is not heavily advertised to students, but the opportunities within organizations like Canada Safeway are endless. Prior to this internship, I had no intention of pursuing a career in the retail industry, but that has definitely changed. As an intern, I was able to manage my own projects, learn about the retail business, and utilize my HR knowledge and experiences. To say the least, MARK465 was an excellent opportunity and I would recommend this course to anyone that is looking to get some work experience before venturing out into the real world.

My internship was an amazing experience. I was able to apply the knowledge that I acquired from my university courses as well was introduced to many new areas within my field. I was able to be apart of an amazing marketing campaign and would consider this specific field as a career choice. I would recommend this program to anyone that wants to gain useful skills and knowledge.

My experience with the School of Retailing as an intern is one of the most professional, well ran and informative experiences I have had as a business student. I had the opportunity to work as a Marketing Coordinator at Bridal Fantasy, alongside several high profile and senior management professionals. It allowed me to learn how the wedding industry works, but also the importance of how marketing can affect an organization. As a marketing major, working at Bridal Fantasy gave me an insider's perspective on how to deal with business to business relations, as well as the demands of the market in shaping the way a company needs to advertise, promote, and communicate. Overall, my experience was fruitful in the knowledge I gained, as well as the mentors I have to further my university experience, both personally and professionally. Thank you School of Retailing!

I heard about the School of Retail internship opportunity through a friend at the University, and after realizing I needed credit over the summer and had no job lined up, I thought it would be worth while to hand in an application and my resume. Also I was starting to realize I had no real world marketing experience, and I had no plan of what I wanted to do once I was graduated. I was hired on by Value Drug Mart and soon found a company that would offer great real world experience as well as a fun place to spend the summer. My project for the summer was to create a business proposal for the Board of Directors at Value Drug Mart to research whether or not an e-tailing site would be a viable business strategy for the company at this time. Through this project I was able to see every aspect of the company and understand better how the company works as a whole. I also worked closely with the entire management staff at Value Drug Mart, all of whom were ready and willing to help if I needed it. It was nice to enter into an organization that was so accepting of intern students and so excited about the project I was working on. I would recommend this program to anyone going through the business program, there are jobs that fit every major, not just marketing, and the business experience gained is excellent.

Participating in the Marketing 465 Internship Program was a great experience. My position at Value Drug Mart Associates Ltd provided me with my first taste of real-life business employment. I worked for the company as a consultant for their “Department Revitalization Project,” in which I was responsible for analyzing and improving the operations of their stationery/office department. This project allowed me to showcase the skills I’d already developed in school; however it also taught me a great deal about business that I never could have learned in a classroom. Being able to earn a full time income while completing a 3 credit course was also a great bonus!
Overall, I am very satisfied with the experience I gained through my internship. Value Drug Mart was truly a great company to work for, and the School of Retailing did an excellent job in coordinating the program. I highly recommend this program to all other students!
