Meet Our Team
Director
Kyle B. Murray is an Associate Professor of Marketing and the Director of the School of Retailing in the Alberta School of Business at the University of Alberta. Prior to joining the Alberta School of Business, he was an Assistant Professor at the Richard Ivey School of Business and a Visiting Professor at INSEAD (France). He holds a B.Sc. in Psychology and a Ph.D. in Marketing and Psychology from the University of Alberta.
Professor Murray's research focuses on consumer judgment and decision making, with an emphasis on how consumers make choices in electronic environments. His work in this area has been published in Acta Psychologica, Communications of the Association for Computing Machinery, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of Interactive Marketing, MIT Sloan Management Review, and Organizational Behaviour and Human Decision Processes. The results of his research have also been featured in a number of book chapters and newspaper articles. As an educator Dr. Murray has developed and taught undergraduate, MBA, PhD and executive level courses in marketing, consumer behaviour, retailing and e-commerce. He has also consulted for a number of organizations including the Canadian Automobile Dealers Association, Canadian Petroleum Institute, General Motors, Greater Edmonton Foundation, Microsoft and Wolseley. Dr. Murray sits on advisory boards for Colloquy, Leger Marketing and the Edmonton Opera. He is also a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Online Consumer Studies.

Executive Director
Paul McElhone has spent more than twenty years helping companies define their corporate image and understand the relationship between branding, core values, and company culture. With a passion for detail and extensive retail management, Paul has worked with regional, national, and international companies. As well, he has delivered keynote addresses and workshops to businesses, the Chamber of Commerce, educational institutions including the European School of Management in Paris and Paul has delivered workshops for a group of retailers in Trinidad Tobago.
Paul’s concentration has been in the areas of strategic retail management, branding, image and image development, management consulting, merchandising and display, and selling and sales management.
For almost eighteen years, Paul worked for the Henry Singer Fashion Group holding a variety of positions from buyer, to store manager, to head of merchandising and display, to director of corporate sales. Since 1998 Paul has held the position as Executive Director of the Canadian Institute of Retailing and Services (CIRAS) at the Alberta School of Business at the University of Alberta. Currently Paul is the Executive Director of the University of Alberta School of Retailing. He was awarded the sessional teaching award in 1999. Paul has successfully defended his PhD, on July 11, 2008, with the ESCP-EAP (European School of Management) in Paris.

Jack Brown, MPA
Adjunct Professor
As a Senior Management Partner with the Global Coaching and Consulting Group, Jack provides global coaching and consulting to international marketing leaders to help them effectively build their global marketing teams in each of the countries where they sell their products or services.
Jack began his marketing and advertising career with General Foods in Canada. Recruited by the Calgon Corporation, he moved to the U.S. to establish and manage their Canadian subsidiary. Subsequently Jack founded the J. Brown Group as part of the Grey Advertising Global Group. His agency created and developed the concept of co-marketing for Fortune 100 companies including: Procter & Gamble, Hewlett-Packard, Kraft, AT&T and Qualcomm. As the Worldwide Director of Co-Marketing for the Grey Global Group, Jack worked with its international subsidiaries to assist them in the development of co-marketing capabilities and helped them establish the structure and teamwork necessary to execute these programs.
Jack has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Commerce from the University of Alberta, where he is an Adjunct Professor, and has a Masters Degree in International Economic Policy and Management from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA).

Erin Hamilton
Program Coordinator

Erin Hamilton is the Program Coordinator for the School of Retailing. She holds a BA from the University of Alberta and a Graduate Certificate in Business from the University of Queensland in Australia. Erin comes to us with a strong background in event planning. Prior to assuming her role with the School of Retailing in April 2010, she held various administrative positions within the Alberta School of Business.

Patricia Garth
Administrative Assistant

Patricia Garth joined the School of Retailing team as Administrative Assistant in April 2010. Patricia has a BFA from the University of Victoria. She brings to the School of Retailing 20 years of business administration experience from both the private and public sectors. Patricia has worked in the Alberta School of Business for over 8 years, formerly with the Dean's Office and the MBA Office.
