Lloyd Steier

As Professor of Strategic Management and Organization at the University of Alberta School of Business, Lloyd Steier has researched and published in the areas of family business, strategic management, new venture creation, venture capital governance and management education. Some of his more recent publications include articles on family firm governance.

He currently teaches venture creation and management at the MBA level, strategic management for executive development programs and facilitates the business planning seminars for the province-wide VenturePrize Business Plan Competition.

He is the recipient of several teaching awards and sits on the policy board for the Centre for Enhanced Corporate Reporting. Lloyd continues to be an active speaker in many international forums devoted to family business, strategic management and entrepreneurship.

 

Trish Reay

Trish Reay

Assistant Professor, Department of Strategic Management and Organization

Having received her PhD from the University of Alberta, Trish Reay is an assistant professor with the Department of Strategic Management and Organization. Her research interests include organizational change, institutional theory and institutional learning. She is currently investigating family firms in the Canadian wine industry (with Bob Hinings), seeking to understand not only how family businesses operate within the industry, but also how other businesses are affected by the large number of family businesses that produce the major output of wine. 

Trish has personal experience within a family enterprise as part-owner of a family farm. In addition to teaching International Family Enterprise (ORG A 488), Dr. Reay also teaches Introduction to Strategic Management and Organization Design (ORG A 321).

 

Jennifer Jennings

Jennifer Jennings

Jennifer Jennings is an Associate Professor in the Department of Strategic Management and Organization at the University of Alberta’s School of Business. Professor Jennings is responsible for developing and teaching courses on Managing Family Enterprise (SMO 428 and 628) for the Centre for Entrepreneurship & Family Enterprise. She also teaches in the areas of entrepreneurship and general management. 

Jennifer's research has been published in top academic journals including the Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal and the Journal of Business Venturing, and has been featured in top Canadian media outlets such as the National Post and Globe and Mail. She is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Business Venturing and has received two Best Paper awards from the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management.
