Alberta Business Family Institute (ABFI)

The Alberta Business Family Institute at the Alberta School of Business assists families engaged in a business through transformational educational programs based on research. We seek to help business families and their professional advisors gain a better understanding of the unique issues they face and provide them with practical tools to allow them to make meaningful change in their lives and businesses.

Centre for Applied Business Research in Energy and the Environment (CABREE) 

CABREE is an independent and non-partisan research centre in the University of Alberta’s Alberta School of Business. Our mandate is to perform economic and business analysis to inform public policy debates on issues of vital importance to Alberta and to Canada as a whole. Our research efforts focus on energy markets, electricity restructuring and climate change issues. Within each area, we explore policy-driven issues and highlight the linkages between energy and the environment. Our analysis draws from business economics, finance and quantitative modeling, as well as from associated disciplines.

Canadian Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (CCCSR) 

Social impact, environmental sensitivity and the economics of community building are three pillars that form the framework for the new Canadian Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (CCCSR). This research-intensive centre uses creativity and innovation to push the boundaries of business in a way that encourages business leaders to consider their diverse stakeholders and improve the quality of life experienced by the communities they live and operate in.

Canadian Corporate Governance Institute (CCGI) 

The Canadian Corporate Governance Institute (CCGI), located in the University of Alberta's Alberta School of Business, is an instigator of and clearinghouse for research into all aspects of Canadian corporate governance. The CCGI's goal is to make it as easy as possible for Canadian's to become informed about the laws, regulations, economic issues, and policy debates surrounding corporate governance in this country. In addition to focusing on the governance of listed corporations, the Institute also studies the governance of family firms, public sector enterprises, and not-for-profit organizations.

Centre for Effective Business Management of Addiction Treatment (CEBMAT)

This non-profit research centre is located at the Alberta School of Business. The vision of CEBMAT is to become a world-class leader in knowledge creation and outreach in the field of addictions research and innovation.

Centre for Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise (CEFE) 

Family business is a dominant organizational form world-wide with unique challenges and rewards. The Centre for Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise seeks to discover and disseminate knowledge relative to the management of family enterprise, particularly in the contexts of entrepreneurialism and internationalization.

Centre for Excellence in Operations (CEO) 

The goal of the Centre for Excellence in Operations (CEO) is to create a greater awareness of the field of operations management and operations research among students, academics and industry at large. Acting as a liaison between the university and the business community, the CEO enhances the interaction between these parties in order to explore opportunities for operational improvements and to enable the exchange of ideas.

Centre for International Business Studies (CIBS) 

As the world restructures, our activities and expertise help Alberta managers to discover and develop new trade opportunities in the international arena. Our mission is to prepare students for a globally competitive environment and to provide corresponding information to the business community.

School of Retailing (SOR) 

The School of Retailing was officially formed in 2006. Business students at the Alberta School of Business at the University of Alberta are now able to declare either majors or minors in retailing with their Bachelor of Commerce degrees and with a $25 million campaign well under way the School of Retailing is expanding both the academic team as well as the breadth of retail curriculum.

Technology Commercialization Centre (TCC)

The Technology Commercialization Centre (TCC) aims to assist technological innovation and commercialization by supporting the development of fundamental knowledge about technology processes through scholarly research; fostering connections between university research and industry; stimulating technology entrepreneurship through partnerships with key stakeholders such as TEC Edmonton; and expanding our talent pool of managers and entrepreneurially-minded individuals that have a passion for and deep knowledge of key scientific and technological issues related to areas such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, biomedical devices, computing and communications.

Western Centre for Economic Research (WCER) 

In today's tough business world, knowledge of your economic environment give you the power to plan strategically for success. The WCER mandate is to monitor the performance of Western Canada's economy, its policies and programs, and implications for business enterprises.
