The City of Edmonton has a metropolitan area population of over one million and is known for its expansive park system that runs through the city. Edmonton is the capital city of the province of Alberta and is a cultural, government and educational centre. It plays host to a year round variety of world-class festivals, earning it the title of "The Festival City". In fact, Edmonton offers at least one festival per week during the summer months, so there is always something to do!
Edmonton is also home to North America's largest mall (West Edmonton Mall), and Canada's second largest historic park (Fort Edmonton Park). The University of Alberta is situated in the heart of the City of Edmonton in a scenic area on the south bank of the North Saskatchewan River.
Edmonton is located only a few hours drive from the Banff and Jasper National Parks, which offer excellent skiing in the winter and excellent hiking and sightseeing in the summer.
