History - A Chronicle of Commerce

The book A Chronicle of Commerce: A History of the School of Business at the University of Alberta, reveals everything you ever wanted to know about the Alberta School of Business but were afraid to ask.

Author Dr. Bill Preshing spent six years searching every nook and cranny of the Business building, and the memories of current and retired staff, for the interesting details and stories of the people who made the Alberta School of Business what it is today.

Logo - The Alberta School of Business

Alberta School of Business LogoOur stylized “A” was introduced in 2000 in conjunction with the School’s official name change from the University of Alberta Faculty of Business to the University of Alberta School of Business.

The triangular “A” was meant to convey the strength of learning and faculty and to suggest a peak, a pinnacle, a striving to the top, a higher business education.

The design also features an abstract “S” and “B” and depicts the Alberta landscape of mountains flowing down into rivers, streams of knowledge, fields of dreams.

What's in a name?

The Alberta School of Business is built on the Alberta tradition. Innovative ideas, hard work, entrepreneurial spirit and great people have made the Alberta economy the best in Canada. Twenty-three hundred students fill our classrooms every day expecting the best business education in the country. That is what we deliver.

Thanks to our $20 million dollar Preserve the Name campaign, the vision and our name remains for 2010: the Alberta School of Business at the University of Alberta.

Alberta. Always has been. Always will be.
